Skarl is a small barricaded fishing and trading community located on the southern coast of Valorn; as such, they are relatively removed from the infighting which is common throughout central Valorn. In the recent past Skarl has prospered from the trading of furs and supplying raiders off to plunder the rich lands to the west.
Skarl is also one of the last stops on the raiding route to the rich southern kingdoms and as a result dragon boats full of raiders often put into the Skarl on each end of the journey. These visiting raiders sometimes convince the more adventuresome youth of Skarl to join in the voyage with them. Those who return to Skarl are changed, full of stories and a lust for adventure.
Travel to and from Skarl is done mainly by sea; though land travel is possible. There are two main paths which lead away from Skarl; one follows the coast to , the other goes inland to the mining community Halsvelle in the foothills of the Hvitr Mountains. Neither road is well travelled, except by heavily armed groups.
The Surrounding Area
Skarl is a sits on the coast and is surrounded by small clusters of farms. Beyond these remnants of civilization lies the Myrkr Wood. This dark and foreboding forest provides the hunters and trappers furs for the trade. The forest is also said to contain ancient ruins built during the height of the Kingdom of Valorn. Hunters tell of ancient roadways that lead through the forest to the distant Hvitr Mountains beyond the forest’s edge. But these are old hunting tails and no hunter has travelled so far in recent
